What is acupuncture?

What can I expect from my treatment?
- During the initial intake and diagnosis we will discuss the treatment plan with you. It could be a variety of modalities from acupuncture, cupping, herbal medicine, etc.
- Most patients feel minimal to zero pain when needles are inserted, depending on the location. Areas with less tissue (such as hands and feet) can be a little more sensitive. However, needle insertion should never feel unbearable.
- Your treatment could provide immediate relief, depending on the severity and length of time you have had the problem. However, typical results are not seen until 4-6 treatments in. Remember – we are working to treat the root. The problem didn’t happen overnight, it won’t immediately disappear overnight.
What are the risks of acupuncture?
- The most common adverse effects are bruising or bleeding after a needle is removed. Bleeding can occur but is usually easily controlled. Bruising is less common.
- Other risks (which are rare) include: infection, syncope, injury to organ (such as pneumothorax), or bent needle if a patient moves during treatment
